St Leonard's Church Building
'people have worshipped here for 700 years’
The Parish Church, dedicated to St Leonard dates from the 13th century and has many interesting features. It is a Grade 1 listed building. Re-ordering took place at the Millennium.
At the same time new heating and lighting system was installed helping to make this Mediaeval building suitable for use in the 21st century. Safe access was also provided into the churchyard.
In August 2006 there was a fire in the church and the altar was badly damaged.
The original altar had come from the mission chapel in the Droves, St Owen's, which closed around 40 years ago. Extensive work has been done to restore and rebuild the altar by Mr John Ambrose. Specialist cleaning after the extensive smoke damage is on-going. You are welcome to come and enjoy the peace and sense of God in this place where people have worshipped for 700 years.
